Summer Music Festivals

It’s almost summer and you know what that means – sun, sand, vacations, and music festivals. Ahh, sweet summertime. The living is easy and the music is loud! Music festivals have been around for a long time, and more and more keep popping up all over the world. Austin, Texas is known for its music venues and festivals. It is home to festivals like Austin City Limits, South by Southwest, Pachanga Latino Music Festival, and Fun Fun Fun Fest. Not in the Austin area? Don’t worry, there is sure to be a music festival near you.

Coming up this weekend is Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Roughly 35,000 will be in attendance, that’s not including the 70 bands in the lineup! Want to hang out on the beach and listen to The Black Keys, Childish Gambino, Wiz Kahlifa, Pretty Lights, Needtobreathe, Outkast, The Avett Brothers, Jack Johnson, and Bastille? This is the festival for you.

The Hangout Music Festival

The Governors Ball on Randall’s Island NYC is another popular music festival. Many of the same artists performing at The Hangout will be at The Governors Ball. In addition, you will see Vampire Weekend, Skrillex, J. Cole, Phoenix, and Foster the People. There really is something for everyone. In addition to great music, Governors Ball has plenty of activities to keep you entertained in between shows. Who doesn’t love a photo booth/gif booth? Or maybe face painting and lawn games (corn hole and life-size connect four, anyone?) are more your thing. This weekend is going to be jam packed with things to do!

There are a lot of ways to get pumped up before you even start packing your bags to go to your favorite festival. Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee gets festival goers excited months before the shows even start by asking festival goers to submit  dance videos before the festival. The winner gets a chance to perform their moves live at Bonnaroo and, if that isn’t enough, two Bonnaroo VIP tickets (a VIP package includes: 2 VIP tickets, exclusive VIP entrance, preferred parking and camping in a VIP area, special shower and restroom facilities, VIP pre-event dinner and party before the festival which includes a buffet and live band, laptop and internet access in three VIP lounges, Yoga classes, and more).

Music festivals aren’t just for adults anymore, Bonnaroo (and other festivals) welcome music fans of all ages. Kidz Jam at Bonnaroo provides a safe place for children to make sure their festival experience is great. Ran out of sunblock for your tyke? No problem. Kidz Jam has that plus earplugs, freshwater, and safety tips. Kids can participate in interactive games, art projects, games and challenges, and performances while at the festival.

Vans Warped Tour presented by Journeys is a festival that travels! 2014 dates run from April 1 in Los Angeles, California to August 3 in Denver, Colorado. Want to see bands like Of Mice and Men, The Ready Set, We The Kings, 3OH!3, Anberlin, Bowling for Soup, Yellowcard, Dangerkids, and more? Warped Tour is the festival for you. Want to go backstage and meet some of your favorite bands? Warped Tour, in partnership with the nonprofit Music Saves Lives (MSL) offers a backstage wristband to the first 100 ticket holders that line up at the MSL tent the day of the show. Bring a photo of yourself donating blood, earn a donor badge on your cell phone using the MSL app, or earn your MSL Voucher at an official MSL blood center and you could get backstage passes! Parents: if you have a child under 18 who wants to go to the show, we have good news for you! You can get in free. That’s right, Warped Tour offers one complimentary parent/guardian admission ticket to accompany a minor (with a valid ticket) to the show. If it gets too hot, there is a reverse daycare for parents to relax and enjoy cold drinks and an air-conditioned tent.

Not ready to drop all that money? Most music festivals have a volunteer option. Donate a little of your time helping out at the festival and you can get a discounted ticket price! Helping others and enjoying great live music at a cheaper price- what’s not to love about that?
