Retaining Holiday Numbers Throughout the Year

Support Your TeamIn small business retail we all look forward to the profits made during the weeks leading up to the holidays; however the lull we experience after the holidays have commenced often leaves us in peril.  If only you could keep a percentage of the business level you experience during the holiday season throughout the year.  One of the tricks to surviving the holiday after-season is engaging with your shoppers and building relationships before the holiday season ends.  This can be done with something as simple as a friendly smile or a personal “hello” as your shoppers walk through your doors or an extra coupon for a future visit.

One of my favorite ways to engage with customers is breaking into the world of social media, being a constant yet non-invasive reminder that your business is open, current and most importantly, relative.  Simply posting to your customers on facebook, twitter, pinterest or google+ a few times a week will help you create a following, as well as help you to gain a new customer base, simply by word of mouth.  If 10 people “like” your daily post or photo on facebook, and each of those 10 people have 100 friends, you’ve just reached 1,000 potential customers that otherwise may not have ever heard about your niche business.

The most important thing to remember is that you want to create a connection with your customers.  The more your customers relate to you, and hear from you, the more loyal they’ll be – which will help you keep those holiday numbers throughout the year!
